lost item from checked luggage?
I flew with JetBlue in a direct flight from NY to Tucson and when I got my luggage, two of the pockets were open and there were a couple of items missing (my prescription glasses included). I talked to the company and they told me to file a claim that I now have to notarize. Is there any possibility they will actually find my glasses or should I be waiting for the money I reported the glasses costed or should I wait for nothing at all? I don't know how the pockets got opened, and it looks like the airport authorities would not do that without putting a sticker on the bag to let me know they opened it. What do I do?

That happened to me once but they found and returned the missing items.

I think the likelihood that they will find your glasses is pretty slim. If you can get them to reimburse the cost, you will be pretty fortunate. Some airlines don't always admit liability.

Interestingly enough, this is from JetBlue's contract of carriage: "F. For international and domestic transportation, Carrier will not accept for carriage and assumes no responsibility or liability for medicines, money, checks, securities, jewelry (including watches), wigs, cameras, video, audio and other electronic equipment (including computers, software or music devices), CDs, DVDs, silverware, optical equipment (including contact lenses), dental and orthodontic devices or equipment, keys, negotiable papers, securities, business documents, samples, items intended for sale, paintings, antiques, artifacts, manuscripts, animal antlers, furs, irreplaceable books, writing instruments, heirlooms, collector's items or publications and similar valuables contained in checked or unchecked baggage. Excess valuation may not be declared on such valuable items personally. Carrier reserves the right to require the Passenger to sign a limited liability release before accepting any such items for transportation. If any valuable items of the type described in this paragraph are lost, damaged or delayed, Passenger will not be entitled to any reimbursement or compensation from Carrier, whether or not a limited liability release has been signed by the Passenger." Wow. They really get out of everything, don't they? This isn't to say that they absolutely won't reimburse you, but don't be completely surprised if they push back on you. Good luck!

There is a good chance you will not get back your items. I work for delta Airlines and see suitcases with pockets open all the time. We zip them back up so items like yours do not get lost. We have an ongoing problem with TSA not zipping bags back up. Some stations still have TSA put a document in your bag stating that it was searched. At our station (FLL), they put a orange TSA sticker on the bag tag. This sticker shows us that the bag was searched and/or x rayed. While some airline employees find certain items in the bins of aircraft and just kick them to the side (I've seen this many times)...I always pick up the items and give them to baggage service. I always find glasses, sunglasses, earrings, phone chargers, shoes, etc. Good Luck with your claim. I wouldn't wait around for long for your items though...sorry.
