I'm planning a trip to LA with our family. We want to spend 2 days there, drive to Tucson, fly to Denver and
fly home to New York after a few days visiting family. Do I need a travel agent? How do I book a one way with car, with a flight in Tucson and one in Denver? It seems confusing, but there's 2 days fun at Universal, then 2 days to visit my ex-next-door neighbor that recently moved to Tucson, then to my in-laws in Colorado--some flying and some driving. Can someone give me some guidelines to planning this trip? I feel like one of the Griswolds. Thanks!

I have always booked my trips online, but yours is complex and could get messed up if any mistakes are made, so it would be worth it to get a travel agent.

Tuscon is around 500 miles from LA so the first thing would be to insure you aren't assuming it is a short drive just because AZ borders CA. This is a drive of over 7 hours. One way rentals always cost more than those where you return the car to where you got it. You might want to think about flying to Tuscon and renting the car there then returning it to the airport when you fly out to Denver.

You're going to need to do some research. I'd go online to Southwest Air and see what kind of flights you can get. This could be a very expensive airline ticket. Most airlines offer what they call "open jaw" tickets - you fly to one city and home from another, but you are adding an additional one way ticket to that itinerary. It could even be cheaper to do these as 2 separate ticket. You can get roundtri[ tickets from New York to LA pretty cheap.
