Flying While Pregnant.?
I will be about 24 weeks pregnant when I fly home from Seoul to Tucson. The longest leg is from Tokyo to Seattle (about 9 hrs). Any suggestions to be more comfortable on such a long flight? Also, is there any harm to the baby by walking through the metal detector? Any problem with it being so close to the Xray machine? I am active duty military that was stationed in Korea and now I have to return to the states (which is great to be with my husband again). But, it is mandatory that I fly. I'm not really looking for medical advice, just sugestions from those who have flown before while pregnant, what they did to make themselves more comfortable.

You should be fine to fly but check with your doctor before you go, they reccomend to not fly after your 7th month. Drink lots and lots of water before and during your flight, you get dried out flying that long. You can request a bulk head seat so you have more leg room if you are not flying first class, call the airline ahead of time tell them you are pregnant and would really like that seat. I would also bring snacks, no fruit or vegies will be allowed through customes though. Bring a small pillow and lap blanket as well (the airline ones are dirty!)

mOst airlines will not allow people to fly after 34 weeks without a dr letter.. so you should be fine. :) I am not sure what precautions they make with xray machines.. I would just pack something soft like a small blanket or pillow so you can rest it wherever you get sore. Or so you can lay your head on it. I would request a window seat so you can lay your head aginst the side. (the seats are soo erect that its hard to sleep in the other ones)

Be sure to get up and move around a lot. Leg clots are a bigger possibility with pregnant women. Bring water with you - they never give you enough to drink! Be sure to stay hydrated. And like someone else said, call the airline ahead and ask if you can have one of the seats with the most leg room.

I flew to Mexico when I was 20 weeks which was 10 hours. My top tips are: * Wear really loose fitting clothing (not jeans!). Try sweat pants or leggings and have fresh socks so you can take your shoes off. * No point in trying to book a seat with extra leg room as they tend to be situated at emergency exits, and they won't allow a pregnant woman to sit there anyway * Take plenty of snacks and bottled water. * Get headsets and watch movies etc, you need to keep yourself amused so you don't get agitated. * Get up at least every 45 minutes and have a wander around the cabin * Take your own pillow and blanket as the ones they give you tend to be itchy (and if you are anything like me your skin will be itchy as you start to stretch) You will be fine, and there is no risk from the Xray. x
