Why are we sending illegal immigrants back to Mexico using AeroMexico?
Shouldn’t we be using an American airline, which would pump money back into the American economy? Over the past four summers, the federal government spent 51 million dollars of your tax money flying illegal immigrants back home to Mexico. Taxpayers have footed the bill to fly 64,000 immigrants back to Mexico City between 2004 and 2007. The program is supposed to "break the smuggling cycle and reduce the desert death count." However, studies show that the program has not made any impact on either of those issues. About 176 illegal aliens are taken on flights back to Mexico every day. This only accounts for 20 percent of the Mexican illegal border crossers apprehended every day by the Border Patrol in just Tucson alone. http://www.azstarnet.com/metro/252028 Why can't we use U.S. carriers?

I dont think this will help our economy much...

Because the US carriers are making the big money flying them into the US.

I'm just thrilled to hear we are sending them back! One of them almost ran over me this weekend. The guy nearly drove threw a building. Thankfully no one was hurt. I think we should do like (I believe it was) Hoover and send them back to the south of Mexico not just across the border.

Well, I see illegals on the side of the road every day. I live 75 miles southeast of Tucson.

US carriers cannot make money even with full flights. The government is doing them a favor. Besides with the delays from US carriers they might never get home.

Looks like Mexico gets us coming and going. This is nothing, really. The other day on the Arizona border we had yet another incident where some Mexican military guys jumped the border and held a U.S. border patrol guy at gunpoint. The State Department explained it away as a "momentary misunderstanding as to the exact location of the border.". Yeah right, they were covering for a smuggler. Another slap in the face of Americans courtesy of its government.

Its' probably just a political consideration. At least their using Pemex derived fuel, I hope. Personally I don't care too much how they send them back. I feel we should backcharge the Mexican Government for not seeing to their borders- even with a modest, per capita fine to top it all off. For every one we send back we penalize them one Nafta- derived job, giving it back to an American. In fact I've got one better- charge American Companies who higher illegals.

We want to make them feel comfortable on the flight home.

We aught to be using a damn catapult!!! "Gee... they were perfectly healthy when they left America. Whatever happened to them when they were on your side of the border is YOUR problem... amigo."

Since Mexico has nationalized their fuel.. it's cheaper to use the Mexican Airline I'm sure :) Plus, AeroMexico contracts with American Airlines (I know, because when I went to Mexico City and back with AA I had a AeroMexico flight).. so maybe we are getting a piece of the pie anyway.. who knows.

Because AeroMexico's planes are shaped like SUVs and you can stuff 20 illegals in the space the size of a phone booth. If they flew on an American airline carrier, they might get used to the bigger, nicer, American-made plane and want to come back.

Or how about not using airplanes at all? Send them back by bus. Well, if we must use airplanes, then use American Airlines. Or Delta Airlines. Or one of the other American ones.

Bribery?

I think we should let them stay, and ship out all of the hate-America folks who seem not to like it very much here.

Thanks for the story. Man, every day's something new that our idiot gov't does wrong. Better to have the Mexican airline take 'em back & PAY as well. To me, that would be fair.
16 :
Damn good idea! Even better-drop 'em off at the border & let them walk. Then send a bill to the Mexican gov't for travel expenses.

Maybe the American carriers don't want the hassle, or to be associated with illegals... at least not on that scale. Just a guess.

Why are we using an American airline when we need European airlines, the real illegal immigrants where from europe these illegal immigrants that you speak of are actually really just native Americans who had a border shoved in that was not natural. Most of the people who you consider illegal are just human beings like yourself and if you don't want to treat them that way then maybe you should find a small island and live there alone away from humanity and you fellow human beings.

It is because it would be too expensive to have it done by Federal Express Too many trucks and the gas prices are too high

Aero Mexico still serves food on its flights. And they charge less, but I see your point and think we really do need to support American businesses. Go Greyhound!
21 :
to be fair we have pumped billions into us carriers and they are still pathetic basket cases, but i take your point!
22 :
AAhhhh..another sad result of the ineffectual border & immigration policies of this gov't for the passed 20 years.

We could send back 100 percent we catch each day.....especially if we walked them back home.... It didn't bother them to sleep on bare desert sand while in process of invading us - surely it won't bother them doing the same on the way back home..... Lead them by tank, and let more tanks follow them - make sure they don't get "lost" on the way home..... Serve them MRE's and bottled water during the walk - if it is good enough for our soldiers, it is good enough for our invaders.
