Can i get my luggage during a connecting flight?
I am flying from Tucson to Newark and then to Paris. At Newark I have a layover of about 8 hours where I am planning to see my family. I am planning to bring them some gifts (haven't seen them for years) that will be in my cargo luggage,( already tried, will not fit in my carry on:( so my question is, will I be able to get out of the airport and get my luggage back to give the gifts and then recheck in for my later flight?

It would be best to call the airline and confirm what their policy is, but I really don't think that it's possible. All of the checked luggage will be on the plane awaiting departure to Paris, and I don't think they could make an exception for one person even if they wanted to. It would be too much trouble to separate one suitcase from all of the others. Have you considered shipping the gifts to your family? I think UPS or Federal Express would be a more practical option if you really can't fit them in your carry-on.

I think that you can. You will need to contact the airline in advance to see if you can check your luggage to Newark. You can then go to your family. You will need to check in again, go through security etc.
